Video editing: the new way of saying things

I am a person who studied literature and I always thought that if you wanted to become an authority, you had to go out and say things in public. To do that, you had to publish books or magazine articles, and speak on the radio or, hopefully, on television. But not now. Now you do it by publishing videos. That’s where video editing comes in.

What is video editing?

Video editing, at least in the digital marketing world, is the creation of video. They are usually posted on social media or any digital platform. They aim to communicate an idea, feeling, perspective, or experience to an audience.

It is a very creative and personal way to make yourself known. It is an individual way to express the things that concern or interest you. By simply activating the camera on your smartphone, you have a powerful tool at hand that has a high rate of diffusion and engagement.

Nowadays, social media algorithms greatly favor video editing. Video content is a direct, short, and effective way to spread content on the internet. It doesn’t matter if we are creating a well-crafted video, with scriptwriting and collaborations, or simply vlogging. There are many ways to make use of video editing on the internet and here are some of the most common video creations currently on the market.

Type of content that can be published with video editing

Video channels like YouTube and TikTok abound with video editing. But what kinds of videos can you publish that can reach different audiences? Here are some of them:

01. Tutorials and guides

These are videos that show a step-by-step approach to doing something. They show how to perform a task or use a product and are popular on platforms such as YouTube.

They consist of educational videos that teach users how to do anything. These videos are great for gaining a lot of views in the medium and long term.

02. Promotional videos

They are designed to promote products, services, or events. Their objective is to capture the viewer’s attention and urge someone to buy or purchase something.

They are more transactional videos. Usually, brands or companies pay content creators to publish such videos. Product reviews, branding, and customer reviews are also included here.

03. Educational content

Videos that explain complex concepts or teach technical skills. They usually come in the form of courses or tutorials. They are popular on distance learning platforms.

These videos are ideal for people with specialized knowledge in an area who want to earn money. They also raise your profile by offering services to an audience who want to learn on an online platform.

04. Interviews / podcasts

They consist of conversations with experts or enthusiasts on a topic, presented in a dynamic way through video editing.

We usually associate the word podcast with audio (which is true). But, YouTube channels are becoming very popular where people discuss certain areas of interest accompanied by videos to add some interest and dynamism.

05. Vlogging and video video editing

Here we have videos in blog format where people document their day-to-day lives or share personal experiences.

These types of videos do not have to do with an area of knowledge or technical expertise. On the contrary, they aim to be more personal and experiential content. Usually, in vlogging, content creators share their experiences, feelings, or opinions about everyday situations.

06. Viral videos on social media

Short and dynamic content designed specifically for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook, taking advantage of the formats of stories, reels, and posts.

This group includes content that tends to become popular and is mass-consumed. For example, we include memes, influencers who create content, jokes, series/movie clips, etc.

07. Music videos

These are known as clips. They are creative and artistic compositions that accompany a song. They are popular among artists and bands to promote their music.

These types of videos were once popular on television. However, after the advent of streaming and video playback platforms, they have slowly migrated to social media.

08. Reporting with video editing

This has to do with coverage of events. Also included in this package are summaries that capture the moments of a conference, festival, meeting, event, sport, etc.

Social communicators, journalists, commentators, and reporters in an area of the entertainment industry create this type of channel. It is a space for information, news, and commentary.

09. Entertainment content

We can include anything related to sketches, short films, or any other type of video designed to entertain the audience.

This type of content tends to be quite diverse, as it is a space for opinion as well as entertainment. This is where content creators who are lovers of music, cinema, video games, and sports, and who want to entertain an audience, or inform, come in.

Why I love video editing

I think video editing is a medium that has given people a voice. In the past, the dissemination of information and knowledge was closely linked to power and hierarchies. But now, by posting a video on the internet, we can say what we want to say on the spot.

I also think that video editing tends to be quite volatile, fragile, and forgettable because the nature of video on social media is overshadowed by the excessive amount of content published daily in all media. However, it is a slightly more democratic way to allow people who want to say or show something in public to do so.

At RPB Marketing we take video editing very seriously. It is one of our services available in the content creation section. Therefore, if you would like to purchase this service, please contact us.
