RPB Marketing | Content Marketing & Growth Marketing
Indeed, what is DeepSeek? Last week, on January 27th, we all saw some news that left us in shock: the stock market in the United States lost more than a trillion dollars. What was the reason? The most unexpected thing: a new AI, from China.
But the funny thing is that it is not a new AI (because there are many new AIs). The joke behind it is that it’s an AI that costs explosively less than what the Open AI model offers, with very close (or even better) results. And, on top of that, it’s free and open source.
I will introduce DeepSeek and comment on whether it is worth it (or not). We will also look at its features. I’ll review what it offers, in a different way, from other AI models.
For real, what is DeepSeek?
It is a content-generating software. DeepSeek-V3 can be considered an artificial language model created by the Chinese company DeepSeek.
What does DeepSeek offer?
- Chat response generation from a command prompt.
- Problem-solving through logical responses.
- Research, analysis, and automated content generation.
And how does it work to achieve that?
- Through the generation of text that responds to prompts.
- Learning with content-loaded artificial intelligence training.
In a nutshell, it functions as a digital assistant. It works with commands related to answering questions. It helps us with tasks, offering recommendations, solving logical-deductive problems, and having conversations. Basically, it’s like other generative AIs (but for free).
What is surprising here is not so much what it is, but what had to take place for it to emerge. It is estimated that DeepSeek took only about 2 years to create. It also sustained a staff of about 200 employees. In addition, it is estimated that it took 6 to 10 million dollars to make this tool a reality.
There is a great comparison between these two. To give you an idea, DeepSeek, ChatGPT’s new competitor, potentially cost less than OpenAI’s software did. It is estimated that ChatGPT had an approximate production value of $540 billion and that its training and management have demanded significantly higher amounts to keep it afloat.
What is DeepSeek’s proposal (different from other AIs)?
The proposition behind DeepSeek is no different than any other AI. It is a content-generating software. We enter prompts into its platform and receive answers in a chat based on the information it has.
So what is DeepSeek and what can it offer? It has some qualities worth reviewing:
- Free artificial intelligence. It is an advanced language model that has no cost and requires no subscription of any kind.
- Independence from the United States. It does not belong to the American jurisdiction. It is an actual open AI produced in China.
- Production efficiency. It required an average of 2,788 data load hours, with an h800 GPU.
- Software architecture. It uses a design system called Mixture of Experts (MoE). In short, it has what is estimated to be 671 million parameters to generate answers.
Do we recommend it at RPB Marketing?
We believe it is still important to perform some tests. According to comments from many analysts, it is an AI model that is still very much oriented to the Chinese market, which may affect its efficiency for consumers in other countries.
However, the fact of having a highly efficient AI, which escapes the North American jurisdictional space, free, open-source, and accessible on different devices with fast and accurate commands can only give us a positive appreciation.
Moreover, this AI consumes fewer resources to operate and has cost significantly less than other famous AIs in the market (such as ChatGPT) sets a precedent. This proposal is much more open and reachable. Not only that: it is accessible to many and does not require strong technology monopolies to operate.
What is DeepSeek? For many a solution, a relief, a surprise; for others, a threat, a blow to the economy. For us, it is an alternative and a new way of looking at the economy and technology in the future. We even believe that many marketing services are currently highly dependent on AI. So having such an AI is a high-level solution.
